Dual Immersion Parent Letter

Dear Dual Immersion Parent/Guardian,

Thank you for your continued support of the Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program in the Murray City School District (MCSD). We hope you are enjoying the summer and that you and your family are safe and well.

In the midst of a global pandemic and while preparing for the reopening of our schools for the 2020-21 school year, as a parent/guardian of a student in the DLI program in Murray, we want you to be aware of the options your student has as they return to school. All students in the MCSD can choose to return to school in-person, online, or in a combination of the two which we are calling “hybrid”.

No student who chooses to do their education online or in the hybrid model will lose their spot in the DLI program during the pandemic.

In-person learning option is just that, the student will plan to attend school in-person five days a week with their assigned DLI English and Spanish language teachers.

Students who choose to do a hybrid learning option will attend school some days in-person and do some days online (in-person will be in Spanish/English, online or hybrid will be in English with a few supplemental lesson supports that will be made available in Spanish).  The additional support will be in the form of daily published direct instruction lessons by both the English and Spanish language DLI teachers. Also, there will be a DLI link on the Horizon Elementary webpage that will house some additional supplemental Spanish literacy and science lessons for DLI students. If this option is your choice, you can indicate that on this FORM.

We recognize students who choose the online or hybrid learning options may not learn the language at the pace they had in previous years or at the level they could if they were exercising the in-person learning option. When DLI students who have selected the online or hybrid learning option return to school in-person, the Murray City School District along with the Utah State Board of Education will do their best to provide support to assist students in maximizing their DLI education and experience. Again, no student who chooses to do their education online or in the hybrid model will lose their spot in the DLI program during the pandemic.

We know that selecting the learning option that best fits the needs of your student and your family can be a difficult decision. We hope you find this information beneficial as you make your decision. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact:
