Parents/Guardians,
The application window for Horizon Elementary’s Dual Language Immersion Program will be open from January 6, 2025, until January 24, 2025. Any kindergarten student starting the first grade in fall 2025 may apply. If the number of applicants exceeds the seats available, a lottery will be held to determine entrance into the program.
Elementary students in the Dual language immersion program spend half the day learning core subjects in English and the other half learning in a target language (Spanish). The program continues through high school, where students can work to pass the Advanced Placement exam in the 9th or 10th grades and take college-level courses for early college credit.
Please note: Students with siblings currently enrolled at Horizon must submit applications by January 24, 2025. If you do not live within Horizon’s attendance boundaries, you must obtain an out-of-boundary permit before applying for the program.
A percentage of spots will be filled by students attending Horizon Elementary, and the remainder will be filled by students attending other schools in Murray City School District. We will select students outside Murray Schools if there are still open spots. Percentages are based on current enrollment and are typically 60/40 or 50/50 but may vary depending on the year. As always, siblings of students attending the Horizon DLI Program will be prioritized.
Parents will be notified of their children’s offer for placement into the program or on a waitlist between January 27-31

If you have additional questions, a virtual Q&A meeting will be held for parents/guardians of current kindergarten or first-grade students interested in the Spanish DLI Program. The meeting is tentatively scheduled for January 8, 2025, at 6:00 PM. A Zoom link will be available as the date gets closer.
